Sonya has commenced pupillage under the supervision of Tony Muman.
Immigration & Public Law
Prior to joining Chambers, Sonya gained significant experience in this practice area, particularly Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking, as a Litigation Caseworker with the Home Office.
Sonya drafted responses to pre-action letters and judicial reviews against the Modern Slavery Victim Care Contract (‘MSVCC’), which challenge the support provided to individuals in the National Referral Mechanism. She worked on cases regarding the Nationality and Borders Act 2022 and Public Order Disqualification.
Housing
During the Bar Course, Sonya volunteered at Hackney Community Law Centre. She also volunteered at her University’s Legal Advice Clinic during her Undergraduate Law Degree.
Sonya worked on cases involving social welfare, homelessness and disrepair. She would also attend Hackney Library to assist with the Law Centre’s legal advice drop-in surgery available to the general public.
Other
Sonya has a wealth of volunteering experiences both abroad and in the UK. She has worked with marginalised women in Kenya in respect of sexual health rights, children in care in the local community and within local government in relation to Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).
Outside of her professional life, Sonya enjoys taekwondo, distance-walking and crocheting.
